Modular Dairy Digester

BIOFerm Energy System’s delivered its Titan 55 small-scale anaerobic digester to Allen Farms, northwest of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, in November. The “plug-and-play” containerized digester, designed for operations with a limited organic waste stream, will process manure from the farm’s 135 dairy cows. The project is a collaboration with the University of Wisconsin (UW) Oshkosh, Allen Farms and BIOFerm. “With UW Oshkosh faculty and students serving as field advisors and researchers to assist Allen Farms, the Titan 55 project will demonstrate how smaller farming operations can reduce operational energy costs,” says Tom Sonnleitner, a Vice Chancellor at UW Oshkosh. The digester is projected to be operational by early 2013. www.biofermenergy.com

Compost Marketing

Waste Management of Illinois, Inc. and Garick LLC have signed a multiyear agreement under which Garick will market compost made at two Waste Management facilities in Illinois — Willow Ranch in Romeoville and Harbor View on Chicago’s Southeast side — for distribution in Illinois, Indiana and southern Wisconsin. “The compost is a blend of clean yard trimmings and food residuals,” says Robert Schanz of Garick. It will market the compost and blends (bulk and bags) to landscapers, soil blenders, garden centers, nurseries, turf professionals and farmers. www.garick.com

Submersible Mixer

KSB, Inc. introduced the Amaprop 2500, a submersible mixer for the total mix biogas plant. It features a large propeller design with low speed operation, which yields significant energy savings, according to the company. The propeller blades are made of glass fiber reinforced with epoxy resin with a metal hub insert and protective gel coating. Its water tight cable entry protects the motor against moisture, notes KSB. www.ksb.com

Conveyor Belt Cleaner

Martin Engineering introduced a new powered brush cleaner for conveyor belt applications. It features a rotating design that removes material accumulation and dust and is “well-suited to belts that use raised elements — cleats, chevrons, ribs or lugs — to assist in carrying material,” according to the company. A 1 horsepower (HP) motor drives units for 18 to 42-inch wide belts; a 2 HP motor powers the cleaners for 48 to 96-inch belts. The motor can be operated in either direction. Two bristle pattern options are available to accommodate materials with a range of moisture contents. www.martin-eng.com
