The Product Policy Institute announced that the organization has adopted UPSTREAM as its new name. UPSTREAM unveiled its updated brand through a webinar to launch their new website – www.upstreampolicy.org, and an updated mission statement: UPSTREAM is a national environmental organization dedicated to creating a healthy, sustainable, and equitable society by addressing the root causes of waste. Our mission is to organize for product-focused environmental policies that advance sustainable production and consumption, and good governance. “After ten years as the Product Policy Institute, today marks an exciting new chapter for our organization,” said Mark Hays, Board President of UPSTREAM. “As UPSTREAM, we are committed to building a more sustainable economy by engaging more Americans in upstream solutions to our nation’s most pressing environmental issues.”
Simplified Name And New Logo
The organization’s rebrand stems from the Board’s commitment to engage and inspire broader audiences, and serve the organization as it works in advocacy settings on
product-focused issues. “In order to build the political power to change the way we make and use products, we know we need to engage more Americans,” said Bill Sheehan, Executive Director for UPSTREAM. “Not only are we updating our brand, we’re updating our whole communications strategy to help bring sustainable production issues into the mainstream.”
UPSTREAM: Where Waste Solutions Begin
From today forward, “UPSTREAM: Where Waste Solutions Begin” will be the new tagline for the organization, reinforcing an emphasis on upstream solutions to environmental problems.
“We believe that the key to solving environmental problems is preventing them upstream before they start,” said Matt Prindiville, Associate Director. “We’re working to ensure that products are designed with safe, sustainable materials and continuously reused or recycled into the products of tomorrow, creating jobs, business opportunities and a healthy environment.”
The new website provides access to information on UPSTREAM’s projects, the issues the organization is working to address, and the solutions the group is promoting. In addition, the website features the organization’s renowned blog as well as a searchable resources database, where visitors can access a wide variety of publications, fact sheets, presentations and other media on sustainable production and consumption issues.
