The UK government’s “Anaerobic Digestion Strategy and Action Plan” annual report recognizes the value of digestate: “When used effectively and appropriately, it is a valuable fertilizer which can directly replace other inorganic fertilizers.” An example of liquid digestate application on cropland is shown. Policies are in place to stimulate development of digestate markets across the United Kingdom. Research provides strong support but challenges still remain.
