Water Environment Research Foundation Codigestion Survey

The Water Environment Research Foundation (WERF), the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, Hazen and Sawyer, Kennedy/Jenks Consultants and Carollo Engineers have collaborated to develop a common survey to obtain information for three separate research projects related to codigestion of high strength wastes. These projects all are being performed as part of WERF’s “Energy” knowledge area. The common theme of the three projects is evaluating operational impacts of processing feedstocks such as postconsumer food waste, FOG and food processing residuals on WRRFs. “Utilities in all stages of implementation of codigestion programs are welcome to take the survey and there are questions specific to planning, design and operations for any project stage,” explains Matt Van Horne of Hazen and Sawyer, a researcher on one of the projects.

The survey is divided into two Phases: Phase 1 provides a more general overview of information relative to codigestion and ends with identification of the status of the codigestion program. Depending on the answer to that question, a link will be provided to a Phase 2 survey where more detailed information will be requested. Phase 1 is anticipated to require 15 to 20 minutes to respond while Phase 2 is anticipated to require 30 to 45 minutes to respond. Please allow enough time to complete each Phase in its entirety in a single sitting, as once the survey is closed, you will not be able to restart from your previous location. The two Phases can be completed at separate times.
