Arlington National Cemetery, located across the Potomac River from Washington D.C., screens all soil that comes in contact with fallen soldiers’ caskets. Recently, the Cemetery replaced its worn out box screener with a Screen USA TROM512 Track Mounted Trommel Screen that runs a minimum of 8 hours a day. “Of all of the installations I have been involved in over the past 34 years, this was the most memorable,” notes Rick Cohen, president of Screen USA.

Servicing Ag Markets

Anuvia™ Plant Nutrients announced an agreement with Southern States Cooperative to market Anuvia’s SymTRX™ to crop producers. Anuvia’s proprietary processing system uses multiple sources of organic wastes to create its plant nutrient products. SymTRX, a slow release fertilizer, provides 65 percent of its nutrients within the first two to three weeks, and the balance feeding crops for up to eight weeks. It also contains 16 percent organic matter. Southern States is one of nation’s largest agricultural cooperatives owned by more than 200,000 farmer-members with 1,200 retail outlets in 23 states.

Custom Engineered Solutions

E&R Sales, LLC announced it name will change to Skinner AgSolutions LLC, effective January 2, 2018. The rebranded Skinner AgSolutions and its founder, Ron Skinner, have over four decades of experience in serving the agricultural waste marketplace. A long-time supplier of pumps, mixers, valves and other equipment, Skinner AgSolutions began to specialize in the agricultural waste/biogas industry in 2009, focusing on systems for dairy and hog waste management. “This is much more than just a name change and rebranding exercise,” explains Skinner. “We are refocusing our company on providing custom-engineered solutions for our customers in three key areas — manure handling, biogas and nutrient recovery.” Skinner AgSolutions also announced is has become the authorized supplier of Godwin-Xylem rental pumps and equipment to the agricultural market.

BPI Hires Compostability Certifier

Effective December 1, 2017, DIN CERTCO will administer technical reviews under the Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI) certification program. BPI operates North America’s leading certification for compostable products, with over 6,500 products currently approved based on ASTM’s scientific standards. DIN CERTCO has more than two decades of experience administering compostability certification for groups such as EU Bioplastics Association and Australasia Bioplastics, as well as its own certifications. “This will not change the appearance of the BPI certification to those who trust and rely on it,” explains Rhodes Yepsen, BPI’s Executive Director.

New MRF Contract

The Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County (Districts) have selected Bulk Handling Systems (BHS) to design, manufacture and install a new materials recovery system at the Districts’ Puente Hills Materials Recovery Facility (PHMRF). The system will process both commercial and residential streams — including dry commercial waste, commercial MSW, multifamily MSW, and single stream recyclables — and increase the Districts’ processing capacity to 600 tons/day.
