The 11th Hour Racing was established to “use the power of sport to restore a balanced relationship between people and planet,” states the website. “The name, 11th Hour Racing, comes from our sense of urgency: we are at the final hour in the struggle to save our ocean.” The organization is an active supporter of community composting initiatives, as is one of its founders, the Schmidt Family Foundation via the 11th Hour Project. Composting for the Ocean is an 11th Hour Racing initiative. The landing page explains the connections between composting and healthy oceans, and suggests “A Little Soil Searching” with these recommendations: “Composting can be easy and rewarding, but how you compost is up to you. Step 1: Decide whether to compost independently or with a collection service. Step 2: A little enthusiasm and a countertop bucket for kitchen scraps!” Site visitors who opt for a collection service can use the searchable directory on the webpage. In early May, 11th Hour Racing, in partnership with Ocean Hour Farm, released “The Ocean Lovers Guide To Compost,” a fun, easy to understand resource for home and community composting.
