The theme of the Northeast Recycling Council’s (NERC) virtual Spring Conference, March 30-31, is “Reframing Recycling In 2021.” Session topics include Canada’s experience with extended producer responsibility, establishing postconsumer recycled content requirements in manufactured products, and recycling market opportunities. On Thursday, March 31, BioCycle Editor Nora Goldstein joins the panel, “Demystifying Compostable Packaging.” Her presentation will “unpack” composter reluctance to accepting and processing certified compostable products. Olga Kachook, Senior Manager with the Sustainable Packaging Coalition, will discuss the role of compostable packaging in a circular bioeconomy, and Carla Castagnero, President of AgRecycle, a Pittsburgh, PA-based compost manufacturer, will explain how compostable packaging is integral to her company’s successful collection and composting of food waste. The presentations will be brief to maximize the time available for a panel discussion and participant questions.
