International Composting Week Poster Winner

International Compost Awareness Week (ICAW) is billed as “the largest and most comprehensive education initiative of the compost industry.” It is celebrated nationwide and in other countries each year during the first full week of May; in 2022, ICAW is May 1-7. The Compost Research & Education Foundation (CREF) runs the ICAW program in the U.S., which includes an annual contest to create a poster that captures the theme chosen for each year’s ICAW. The theme in 2022 is Recipe for Regeneration: Compost.

The winning poster to represent ICAW in 2022 is by Angelo Esquivel, an artist and graphic designer from Sacramento, California. In his application, Esquivel wrote: “I have been working for the past years with agriculture programs where we educate communities in the Sacramento area about different topics, and one of those is composting and its importance in creating healthier soil that will generate healthier food. Also in the last two years, I have been working with a food co-op where composting is a big part of it. That caught my attention as I could use my skills in graphic design to help the community. The poster I created expresses the use of regenerative practices in agriculture.”
