Organics recycling professionals across the Northeast will gather this spring for the NYS Organics Summit, a 3-day event focused on advancing food waste prevention and donation, and composting and anaerobic digestion infrastructure. The summit brings together compost manufacturers, food scrap haulers, municipal program managers, researchers, state officials, and policymakers to explore practical solutions for scaling organics recycling systems.
The agenda will examine a range of topics including food scrap collection programs, contamination reduction strategies, infrastructure development, and end market expansion for compost and other recovered organic products. As states and municipalities continue working toward ambitious food waste diversion goals, the summit offers a forum for sharing operational lessons and building partnerships across the organics recycling value chain.
Registration is currently open and attendees are encouraged to secure their spot as interest grows among stakeholders working to expand organics diversion across the region.
Among the sessions is a financing workshop designed for private sector businesses operating in the organics recycling industry. Financing Your Business 101, scheduled for Wednesday, April 15 from 8:30 AM to 9:25 AM, will feature Paula Luu of BioCycle and Angel Veza of ReFED. During the session, the speakers will outline common funding pathways available to organics recycling businesses including startup capital, grant programs, project financing, and private equity. The workshop will explore how composting operations, food scraps hauling companies, and other businesses in the organics recycling sector can identify appropriate sources of capital and position themselves for investment at different stages of growth.
In addition to educational sessions, half-day tours on April 16 will visit a food waste digester, composting facilities, and a food bank and grocery store involved in edible food recovery. The annual New York State Organics Summit provides excellent opportunities for networking and collaboration among operators, municipalities, and industry partners working to strengthen organics recycling infrastructure.
Registration details and the full agenda are available through the event website.
